Featuring "Passion for Bach and Coltrane", by Imani Winds' own Jeff Scott. With Harlem String Quartet
The first half of the program will feature each ensemble separately, while the second half will feature the newly commissioned work, Passion for Bach and Coltrane.
Based upon the poety of A.B. Spellman from his book Things I Must Have Known, Imani Winds composer Jeffrey Scott has created Passion for Bach and Coltrane, a work for wind quintet, string quartet, jazz trio and orator. The seven-movement work, anchored by reimaginations of Bach’s Goldberg Variations and Coltrane’s A Love Supreme, explores the influence of spirituality on the art of these two masters and asks the inevitable question — what if J.S. Bach and John Coltrane might chance to meet?
