We recently finished our third annual Chamber Music Festival, held at The Juilliard School, in New York City. It's success was again overwhelming! This time over 80 participants came from all over the country, and were mentored and coached by Imani Winds.

The Zafir Project is centered around the commissioned piece, entitled Zafir, meaning "Breath", by the Palestinian oud player, Simon Shaheen. The project is a sonic journey through the collaboration of Imani Winds and Shaheen, where discovery and new sounds prevail.

The Legacy Commissioning Project (LCP) is an ambitious five-year endeavor launching Imani Winds into our second decade of music making. Wind quintet literature is by nature, quite limiting, so we decided to take it upon ourselves and commission composers to create new music that can change the scope of the repertoire for the wind quintet, for years to come.

Beginning in 2007, we had the amazing opportunity to begin touring with the Wayne Shorter Quartet, featuring Brian Blade (drums), John Patitucci (bass), and Danilo Perez (piano).

In 2006, Imani Winds celebrated the centennial of the great Josephine Baker's birth, through a multi-media production including singer, dancer, percussionist, and film. This project toured all over the country featuring the song stylists Rene Marie and later Maria Howell.
